Deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister, George Mireku Duker addressed the 2022 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Conference in Canada on the topic, Investment Opportunities in Ghana’s Mining Sector, Policies and Initiatives.
Among others, the Deputy Minister outlined prospects for Ghana’s Gold, Bauxite, Iron, Diamonds, other base metals, and Green Minerals such as Lithium.
With Ghana being one of the leading Gold Producers globally, he made a case for Ghana as the best Mining Destination in Africa where the government is committed to value addition, local content policies, and win-win arrangements.
Later, Hon. Mireku Duker participated in the 7th International Mines Ministers’ Summit 2022 on the theme, Getting to Net Zero: Mining’s role in reducing global emissions.
Hon. Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Natural Resources Minister; Hon. Lee Rowley(MP), UK’s Industry Minister; Jose W. Fernandez, US Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment; Hon. Maria Fernanda Avila, Argentina’s Mining Minister; Hon. Olamilekan Adegbite, Nigeria’s Minister of Mines and Steel Development; Hon. Vickram Bharrat (MP), Guyana’s Natural Resources Minister among other Ministers participated in the Summit.
At the Summit, he indicated the Ghana government’s commitment to ensuring that ESG (environment, social, and governance) charters regulating the Mining Industry, assure adequate shared responsibility and stewardship through mining activities toward net-zero emissions.
The minister was moreover, asked to lead the ministerial team to close the Toronto stock exchange, Canada’s most connected market.
Ghana’s long-standing relationship with Canadian mining firms and others is expected to rake in more investments in the coming weeks.
