Students at the Apimpoa Islamic Junior High School in Koforidua of the New Juaben South Municipality in the Eastern Region have been empowered with knowledge and skills on Information Communication Technology (ICT) by MTN Ghana under its 21 days Yello Care project.
The project is on the theme: “Empowering Communities to Drive Economic Recovery”
Mr. Stephen Asare, Area Sales Manager for Eastern Region, Volta, and Oti Region, has entreated students to focus on the positive use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools in education to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
He said ICT tools such as mobile phones, tablets, and computers among others connect students to many educative information sources and support – class learning environments.
“In every situation, we have the positive and negative sides so MTN a leading mobile Telecommunications Company is more passionate about the positive use of ICT,” he noted.
Mr. Asare made the statement during a donation ceremony and ICT training session at Apimpoa Islamic Junior High School, Koforidua.
He presented a DELL Laptop computer to the school.
The donation and training session formed part of activities to mark this year’s “MTN 21 days of yellow care Initiative,” under the theme: “Empowering communities to drive economic recovery and job creation.”
Mr. Asare said the initiative was established in 2007 and is observed annually in June, and added that during this period officials of MTN identify challenges in various societies and offer help to them.
Mr. Wilford Sarpong, a Resource person took students through the benefits and negative impacts of Information and Communication Technology.
He said the negative aspect include roaming on social media to copy wrongly by fraud and other social vices which often result in arrest and court-related issues.
He charged the students to be good users of phones so that they grow up to also invent something new and useful for Ghana and the world at large.
Hajia Latifatu Abdul Raman, Headmistress of Apimpoa Islamic Junior High School, thanked the donors for the kind gesture and appealed for an ICT center in the school.
