The Director of Communication for Private Health Facility Association, Mr Samuel Donkor has said they are withdrawing from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and introduce cash and carry system over the government refusal to pay their debt.
Health Insurance Scheme has served as the biggest social intervention policy of the state, which is to ensure that every Ghanaian either poor or rich have equal access to quality healthcare services at an affordable cost.
According to him, the NPP government has created legacy arrears which are intended to be settled and starting from fourteen months up to date, but nothing has been heard from them.
Speaking to Abena Pokua Ahwene on Dadi FM’s “Efa wo ho” morning show, Mr Donkor averred that the health sectors in Ghana are collapsing due to the government inability to provide adequate fund including quality healthcare service facilities as well as providing the necessary infrastructure, the logistics and human resources to manage the people of Ghana.
This situation has led to the refusal of Pharmaceuticals companies supplying medicine and other medical consumables to their member hospitals, clinics and maternity homes nationwide.
“We have been complaining for many times yet the government has refused to perform his responsibility and to save people’s lives has nothing to do with polities hence politicians should rather think about the well-being of the Ghanaians” he stated.
He emphasized that not all of Ghanaians can afford hospital bills or medication if they introduce the cash and carry system hence the government should stand firm to maintain the NHIS.
Mr Donkor, therefore, urges the Government, the Minister of Health, and all stakeholders to treat their situation urgently as soon as possible to clear their arrears as well as providing them all the necessary healthcare facilities to enable them to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Ghana.
