Sensational high-life legend, Samuel Ofori Amponsah popularly known in showbiz as Ofori Amponsah has revealed Daddy Lumba gave him an equivalent of about Ghc50 million in 1993.
According to Mr All 4 Real, the ace musician gave him the money a day after presenting his demo cassette for Daddy Lumba to help produce the songs he had written.
Speaking on ‘Legends’ show on Accra-based TV XYZ, the musician indicated Lumba gave him the amount and urged him to hit the studio and record more songs.
“I went to Lumba’s house in 1993 and upon reaching the main gate, I met a guy who was expressing disappointment that Lumba has not responded to his request for help despite taking his cassette to listen to his songs. The guy told me that Lumba cannot help me so I should go somewhere else, but I was poised to meet Lumba so I did not listen to the guy” Ofori Amponsah explained.
He added that “I left my cassette with Lumba’s house help on that faithful day and left. The following day, I came back and met the same guy at the gate. A few minutes later, the house help came out and asked about Ofori Amponsah so I quickly introduced myself. The house help told me Lumba wanted to see me and gave the other guy I met cassette back to him”.
The Alewa hitmaker stressed that Lumba showered praises on him after seeing him and described him (Ofori Amponsah) as a legend.
“Lumba was shaving his hair but he asked the barber to hold on and speak to me. He then went into his room and came back with a bundle of money wrapped with a graphic. The money at that time would be equivalent to about Ghc5,000 now and told me to go and record more songs” he stated.
He was, however, grateful for the support he got from Daddy Lumba until the release of the ‘Woho Kyere’ album released in 1999.
The album was made up of nine songs; seven songs composed by Ofori Amponsah and the other two songs done by Daddy Lumba.
