Drivers who ply Koforidua Magazine-Nkurakan road in the Eastern region are complaining bitterly at the current state of the road and the challenges it poses to both motorists and passengers.
The aggrieved drivers are bitter due to the abandonment of that stretch of the road for a long time and questioned why it was not included in the Nkurakan-Somanaya road which is currently under construction.
Speaking to Bryt FM reporter Kwabena Nyarko Abronoma, drivers complain they mostly encounter breakdowns and that increases their expenses on spare parts, which have also seen abnormal increment over the past few years.
Explaining their ordeal, the drivers indicated the development is having a tough effect on their activities and called for immediate attention.
“This short stretch of the road has been in this horrible state for so long without any action from successive governments. Government should have included this stretch of the road to the ongoing Nkurakan-Somanya road project so that we could be relieved, but it seems that was not done. We don’t actually know when this road will be tarred for us” some aggrieved drives said profusely.
Some passengers also shared ugly moments they endure on that stretch of the road as many complain of retarding their businesses.
Others also narrated that, they find it difficult to ply the road frequently due to health implications it may have on their existing ailments.
The Magazine-Nkurakan road links to major places such as; Asesewa in the Upper Manya Krobo district, Somanya in the Yilo Krobo district through to Asuogyaman district.
It extends to the Volta, Oti and Northern regions as well as other African countries but it is yet to have any facelift.
It is a major route for farmers in the Upper, Yilo and Manya Krobo districts to transport their farm produce to Koforidua whilst traders from Koforidua and its environs also find it difficult to patronise the Nkurakan market.
