The Akyem Abuakwa Judicial Committee on Thursday 21st July 2022 upheld the legitimacy of Nana Okakrabise Asiedu (II) as Chief of Kraboa Coaltar traditional area in the Ayensuano district of the Eastern region.
The ruling by the committee brings finality to the two years of chieftaincy litigation which entangled the Kraboa Coaltar stool with two persons- Nana Okakrabise Asiedu II and Abusuapanyin Mfum Larbi both paraded themselves as Chiefs.
Nana Okakrabise Asiedu II was enstooled chief of the Kraboa Coaltar traditional area two years ago however, Abusuapanyin Mfum Larbi who also claimed to be chief from the opposing gate, challenged the legitimacy of the Nana Okakrabise II at the Judicial Committee of Akyem Abuakwa.
But after over a year of legal battle, the judicial committee made its final ruling on Thursday.
The Committee ruled that statement of claim by Abusuapanyin Afum Larbi questioning the legitimacy of Nana Okakrabise Asiedu II has no merit hence same was dismissed.
The current palace occupied by Nana Okakrabise II is the original traditional palace for the stool established by Nana Kwao Badu, grandfather of the first respondents contrary to claims by the petitioner.
The lead counsel for the first respondent Lawyer Francis Osei Bonsu in an interview with the media said he relied on credible evidence to argue his case and hence grateful to the judicial committee for entering ruling in their favor.
He said the judicial committee is an establishment of law and hence has powers same as the courts, therefore, urged the petitioners to respect the decision of the committee.
Nana Okakrabise Asiedu II told the media, that the petitioner’s lineage was just a caretaker role of the Coaltar stool after the demise of his grandfather Kwao Badu therefore the petitioner cannot ascend to the stool and carry himself as Chief of Kraboa Coaltar as affirmed by the Akyem Abuakwa Judicial Committee.
He bemoaned that the chieftaincy dispute has retarded development in the area however hopeful that the ruling will restore peace and hence called on investors to come to the traditional area to acquire vars acres of land for commercial farming and establishment of companies and housing to help create jobs for the youth.
Mybrytnewsroom.com has gathered that the petitioners are considering taking the matter to the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs or the High court by filing a stay of execution and review it the ruling.
