The Member of Parliament for Atiwa East who also doubles as a deputy Minister of Finance, Abena Osei Asare has assured that Free Senior High School Policy will continue to exist despite the current economic challenges facing the country.
Ghana has commenced negotiation with the International Monetary Fund, IMF, for the balance of payment and microeconomic stability support as the country faces difficult economic challenges with high external debts of close to 80% of GDP and 30% year-on-year inflation as of June.
Many stakeholders fear IMF may cancel the Free SHS policy or force the government to review it due to the financial burden the policy experts on the national purse.
However addressing churches in her constituency, Deputy Finance Abena Osei Asare reiterated that the “government will continue to implement its social intervention programs like the Free SHS policy to give equal opportunities to all, help develop our future generations and protect the peace and security we have in this country”.
The MP said this Sunday 24th July 2022, as part of her Church visitation program to four churches in Moseaso namely Powerful Word Prayer Ministry Church, The Church of Pentecost, Methodist, and Presbyterian Churches to interact with the church members.
“In my interactions, I acknowledged their support and prayers for the constituency and country, admonishing them to cherish and protect the peace and security currently enjoyed in the country, as security is paramount to any other thing. I took the time to explain the “see something, say something campaign to help report suspicious activities in their community. I also donated cash and bags of rice to support the vulnerable in the Churches” the MP said.
