Farmers in Tuobodom, one of the widely known communities known for production of quality tomatoes and other vegetables are calling on Government to complete the abandoned Tomato factory at Techiman.
According to Wofa Seth Agyei, the 2009 National Best Tomato farmer and 2019 National Best Tree Crop farmer, government should put measures in place to buy and store produce as they are tired of annual harvest post harvest losses.
Wofa Seth revealed that, “the erstwhile President J. A. Kuffuor administration started a Tomato Processing Factory at Techiman but due to some few technical reasons successive Government’s have abandoned the project leaving machines procured for that purpose to rust while Tomatoes Farmers are suffering in vain”.
He, however, appealed to President Akufo-Addo and the Trade Minister, Hon Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng to complete the factory to serve its intended purpose.
Availability of storage facilities for farm produce continues to be a major challenge for farmers as most losses huge sums of money due to lack of such facilities.
