Samuel Abu Jinapor, the minister for Lands and Natural Resources on Friday commissioned two new communities in Biung and Accra, both in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
The new communities are to resettle members of the Biung and Accra communities, to pave way for mining operations to commence in the area by Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd.
Under the mining laws of our country, it is the responsibility of the Minister responsible for Lands and Natural Resources to ensure that persons to be affected by mining operations are resettled on suitable alternate land, paying particular attention to the well-being and social and cultural values of the people.
The Ministry has, therefore, worked closely with Cardinal to put up these new communities, which have residential buildings fitted with kitchens and washrooms, a health facility, two schools with accommodation for teachers, three places of worship and electricity and potable water connected throughout the communities.
The minister reiterated Government’s commitment, not to repeat the mistakes of the past, but to negotiate and exploit the natural resources of our country for the benefit of the good people of our country, and the host communities.
“The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources will continue to work with all stakeholders, particularly mining companies and mining communities, to ensure that these resources are exploited for the benefit of the people of Ghana, the true owners of these minerals” Hon. Abu Jinapor stated.
