(A Pastor’s Daughter gets Pregnant for a Married Man and the example of Dr. Otabil, ZionFelix, Archbishop Duncan Williams, and more)
I‘ve been awake since about 3:00am, and now it’s 4:22am as I type.
What woke me up? A call from an old friend who is contemplating suicide
What is the problem? She called me panicking and told me she has been having sleepless nights for about a week now, coupled with bad dreams, and she wants to end her life. Wow! Why? What’s the issue?
She is Pregnant!
Ah????? Omg! Pregnancy is why you want to die. To kill yourself and the unborn baby why?
Oh, it wasn’t as simple as I thought, and here is the back story.
My friend is 33, a Pastor’s kid; she leads Sunday school in the Dad’s Church and also doubles as the Youth President of the church. Her dad’s number one message most times is on morality and purity, which has imprinted on the consciousness of the church youth.
And then now, she, who should know better, the offspring of the beacon of hope, is pregnant. “BigG, what should I do? I’m confused”
Me: Confused how? Give birth eh! You are 33, graduate; have a good job, what’s your problem? Why is this simple issue driving you crazy; of all the cedi-dollar wahala in this Bawumia economy?
Her: BigG, here is the more difficult part which I haven’t told you – the guy is a married Man!
Me: Jeeeeesos Christ of Kasoa, Yieeee
How did you find yourself here? Why married guy?
Her: I didn’t know he is married, he didn’t tell me, they are separated so they don’t live together, if you go to his house you won’t see any sign of marriage, but they’re still legally married even though separated for about a year now, according to him.
Me: So have you told him and what did he say?
Her: He says whatever decision I want to take, he is fine. If I want to abort it he will pay for it, if I want to keep it too he will take care of the child. But I’m confused, I can’t keep this, it will bring me shame and disgrace to myself, my dad, my family, the church, and more. My Dad will lose it, he is always keen on purity and morality, we have had a few cases of such in church and he disciplined them seriously so I don’t know what to do.
Me: GIVE BIRTH! I’m also a Pastor’s kid! Las, everyone will be fine! Your mistakes don’t define you, it will all end in praise. This is not worth you ending your life. If you kill yourself, that same Father of yours would now have a funeral in his hands, a grief that he would never recover from, a pain of loss of 33 years of investment in you, and you would have terminated your opportunity to fulfill destiny, all because of what people would say? People that are thinking of how to pay their next bill?
The greatest jail people live in, is the jail of “What Will people say?” Many have sentenced themselves to lifetime imprisonment, the day you walk out of that jail, that’s the day would truly begin to live!
Anyway, after about one hour of conversation with her, I have been able to convince her. We have agreed to meet for breakfast this morning so we can see face to face and talk more. I want to be by her and walk her through this season of her challenge.
But I have something more to say:
Guys, guys, guys, see ehn, a few years ago I heard some bad news that I thought would end some people’s journey, but sadly I was wrong, they rather became greater and made lemonade out of their lemons, eventually, what was breaking news then has now become history and we have all moved on.
Let me share with you four major stories that shook me and I thought would affect the people involved.
1. TD Jakes’s daughter getting pregnant at 13:
Eiii, I was more than shocked, I thought that was the end of TD Jakes’s ministry that year when the news broke. I was worried for him. But guess what? Sarah Jakes is now one of the best-selling young Christian Authors in America.
T.D. Jakes himself released a book titled “Crushing: God Turns Pressure into Power”, which is about how those of faith can learn and benefit from the challenges they face in their lives. To promote it, he gave an in-depth interview about some of the most crushing times in his own life; including finding out his daughter was pregnant at only 13 years old.
When asked about his feelings about realizing that his daughter was going to become a teen mom, the Bishop admitted that at the time he felt like it “was the worst thing in the world,” especially considering he was a successful pastor whose life was underneath a microscope.
But today, that Daughter is ministering Christ all over the World!
The second event that shook me and I thought it was game over, was Archbishop Duncan Williams’ divorce story. Herrrh! I thought that was the end ooo. Oh, but I was wrong, it has all become history, he got remarried to a powerful woman, and ministry has grown from strength to strength.
Another event that shook me was Pastor Chris’s divorce, I was gripped by trepidation and worry, I was wondering…how Rhapsody of Realities will continue because it has always been co-authored by both of them, and all Christ Embassy websites carry the couple’s image. Oh but I was wrong too, both of them have moved on smoothly and Christ Embassy didn’t feel a pinch at all, it got bigger and better. Wow!
One other story was Capital Bank’s collapse and how it was linked to Dr. Otabil since he was the chairman of the Bank. I was sad and worried that it might affect Doc’s image and reputation as a great leader we all hold in high esteem. Oh but I was wrong too, did you see the last Greater works? It was mega! And Doc keeps waxing stronger and stronger.
If you are reading this article, I want you to realize something, I, BigGodwin, have come to one conclusion in this life – NOTHING LASTS FOREVER! All breaking news about any scandal, no matter how nasty it sounds, in a matter of time, it fades away and becomes history and everyone moves on.
Infact, if you are wise and blessed with grace, you can make a beautiful thing out of every mess you find yourself.
If you get pregnant out of mistake, even if your father is the pope, give birth, in 10 years, everyone would have moved on and forgotten the circumstances that led to the birth of that child, even if they remember the circumstances, like Sarah Jakes case, it won’t carry any weight of guilt any longer, because that’s how life is, people move on.
I mean look at Zion Felix now? Initially when news broke that he had impregnated two women, people made noise for a few weeks, but guess what? The last time he posted first anniversary photos of Paxpam (Minalyn’s child), nobody commented anything negative, instead, everyone was pouring love on the child…and what was even more surprising is that Erica (the 2nd Italy-based lady) also posted Minalyn’s daughter and wished her happy birthday too! Wow! Two rival women ooo.
Mistakes, as much as we can avoid them by wisdom, should be avoided. But when they happen, don’t kill yourself! Embrace your mistakes, they don’t make you bad, they make you HUMAN!
I will make sure my friend gives birth, even if I have to meet the dad with her and intercede for her, she would be fine!
