“You need a circle of friends who are not scared to see you climb” – Pope Barnabas
In the Facebook Live, I made about Abena Manokekame, I intended to share my views on the matter, but with the stroke of very rare serendipity, I had a friend join the FB Live and what was meant to be a short session became what was an unscripted version of what appeared to be a seasoned MasterClass.
That statement he made struck me, I noticed that my world had been refined by the kinds of people I have kept around me, and my vision and destiny have seen tremendous progress because of my circle of association.
There are people you keep close to you who are comfortable that you’re all on the same level hustling, the slightest elevation of your destiny above them becomes a threat to them and they begin to feel uncomfortable. These kinds of friends are found to always discourage you whenever you share big dreams with them, not because they genuinely believe it won’t work, but because they have fears that you could accomplish them and become more successful than them.
Be intentional about your association, and hang around winners, so that when you share your testimonies it won’t sound like you are bragging.
Always find friends who inspire you, friends who will mention your name in places when an opportunity you qualify for is presented.
Someone asked a question in the comment section during Facebook Live, “how do I find such friends?”
My answer is simple: “By becoming one yourself! Are you the kind of person who truly and genuinely in your heart want to see your friends rise above you? Do you genuinely appreciate their progress? Would you recommend your friend for an opportunity if that opportunity came into your hands?
Think about it!
