Two persons, said to be traders, are battling for their lives at the Presbyterian Hospital in Bawku after a gun attack near the town on Sunday evening.
The attack, reports say, was launched on a vehicle transporting traders from Cinkanse in Togo towards Bawku in Ghana’s Upper East Region.
Reports say the attackers opened fire on the vehicle in which the majority of the occupants were market women returning home.
It is unclear if the attack has a link to the age-long Bawku conflict.
The latest attack near Bawku brings to three carried out on commercial vehicles. The police are yet to officially comment on the incident.
On Tuesday 16 August 2022, a commercial vehicle travelling from Bolgatanga to Bawku was attacked in a similar fashion near the Bawku Senior High School, leaving three occupants dead.
The attackers were reported to have blocked passage on the road and opened fire on the vehicle.
The incident which was later established to have traces to the conflict was condemned by the Bawku Naba in a statement.
While he called for security agencies in the areas to intensify peacekeeping efforts, Naba Abugrago in the statement also called for mutual participation of the feuding sides in a dialogue.
