Former president, John Dramani Mahama, has expressed sympathy to the people for their current plight as a result of the economic downturn.
He counselled Ghanaians to maintain their faith and look out for one another in the face of their “historic” affliction.
Mahama was responding to a news item from the previous week that described how a commercial transport financial administrator, or “trotro mate,” apparently climbed a power transformer out of impatience.
Kofi Kakra was electrocuted at Kasoa Galilea as a result of failed attempts to talk him out of it and to save him from the power lines.
Mahama, who was abroad when the incident occurred, commented on Facebook on October 19.
The incident at Kasoa Galilea ended with Kofi Kakra being electrocuted after an attempt to persuade him and rescue him from the power lines proved futile.
Mahama, who was out of the country at the time of the incident wrote in an October 19 Facebook post:
“I returned from a trip to hear the sad news of Kakra who killed himself by electrocution.
“The current levels of hardship in Ghana are dire and probably the worst we have ever experienced in the last three decades, but suicide is never the answer.
“Even in the darkest night, there will always come the dawn. The sun will rise again. Let’s be each other’s keepers. Let’s keep hope alive!” the post read.
