The planting of trees under the Green Streets Project for the beautification of the country’s capital city Accra has been completed after three sessions of planting in the medians of roads from Spanner, Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout, through Okponglo to Legon Overpass and to the UPSA junction.
Continuing from where they stopped, the Green Streets Project Committee has on Friday, 21st October 2022 embarked on their 3rd and final planting exercise from the Legon Overpass through to the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) junction.
The planting which was led by the Director of Parks and Gardens, Rev. Charles Nii Aryetey Okai and the Technical Director for Forestry at the Ministry, Mr Joseph Osiakwan saw the planting of Tabebuia, Mimosop and Tree of Life tree species.
The team after planting took some minutes to water and check up on the trees planted earlier from the Standards Board traffic light to the Legon overpass to ascertain their growth level and wellness.
Mr Joseph Osiakwan said the maintenance of the trees will be undertaken and supervised by Parks and Gardens and added that the project is expected to be extended to other cities such as Takoradi, Kumasi and gradually to all the capital cities of the 16 Regions of the country.
