The Minister of Information and Ofoase Ayirebi lawmaker, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said that government will reduce the importation of goods in the coming days.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah affirmed that the government will limit the availability of forex for the import of some goods into the country.
‘‘We want to limit the importation of a number of things; rice, poultry, fruit juices, vegetable oil, because we produce all of them here in Ghana,” he told Accra-based Asaase radio.
The minister indicated that the measures to ban some foreign imports will help reduce the availability of forex for imports and support local productions.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah stressed ‘‘We can do a full review and if it becomes necessary to do an outright ban having improved local production, then you can get into that area”.
‘‘We want to gradually fade these things out by reducing the availability of forex for those imports while supporting local production and in about six months, we can do a full review and if it becomes necessary to do an outright ban having improved local production then you can get into that area”.
