The Assembly Member for Nyamekrom in New Juaben South Municipality in Eastern region Hon. Enock Boahene has presented twenty(20) tricycle vehicles for commercial transportation in the community to ease transportation burden of residents.
Transportation fares to the community has increased significantly due to the rising cost of fuel and deteriorating condition of the road.
Handing over the motorized tricycle popularly known as pragyia to the riders on work and pay arrangement, the Assembly member said in addition to easing the transportation challenges in the area, the initiative will help create jobs for the youth.
Angry Resident of Nyamekrom community on Monday October 31, 2022 blocked a bypass road to the community in protest over deplorable nature of their main road.
The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Michael Okyere Baafi and Vice President Dr.Mahamadu Bawumia on the night of October 27,2020 cut sod for the construction of the Nyamekrom road .
The 10.5 Kilometer Road was expected to be completed in eighteen (18) months.
However the road has been virtually abandoned.
The convener of the protest, Mr. Desmond Ameyaw accused the contractor for what he described as shoddy work regarding the construction of the bridge.
According to him, the bridge is almost washed away hence hanging a week after the member of parliament for New Juaben South Michael Okyere Baafi commissioned it hence drivers are using a bypass to the community.
He further highlighted that due to the bad nature of the road,many drivers are reluctant to ply it .
The few drivers who commute on the road also charge passengers exorbitant fares.
Some women claimed they suffered miscarriages due to the deplorable state of the road.
