A little over one thousand (1000) unapproved lamps have been removed from vehicles in Eastern region by the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) and Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) so far since the enforcement of Regulation 85 of the L.I. 2180 of the Road Traffic Regulation, in 2021.
Nationally, more than 12,000 unapproved lamps have been confiscated.
“In the Eastern Region the strong team work between the three institutions resulted in a little over 1,000 lamps removed” Dennis Yirebu, Eastern Regional Head of NRSA has revealed.
Drivers who were found to have breached the Regulation were made to voluntarily remove the gadgets.
Haulage Trucks drivers were the most culpable.
Fliers on the Regulation were distributed to drivers by NRSA to enhance public education on the regulation.
The Eastern Regional Head of NRSA, Dennis Yirebu who disclosed this in Koforidua on Thursday November 10, 2022 commended the stakeholders for their commitment to the exercise.
“I will at this point with your kind permission like to point out for special mention, the admirable and stellar efforts put in by the RCC, Regional Police Command, and also officers such as C/Supt. Mr. Stephen K. Ahiatafu, Mr. Sylvanus Markewei (DVLA) and DSP Asante Foster. I cannot also forget inputs from C/Supt. Maria Osei Adu and DSP Emelia Gyekye”.
