Public education on the December 17th District level elections has gone down drastically after the calling off of the referendum, mybrytfmonline.com can confirm.
Before the calling off of the referendum, political leaders were heard talking on the elections everyday on all media outlets, but the situation is now different.
President Akufo-Addo Addo called off the referendum on the basis for broader consultations as there seems to be widely divided opinions on it.
The referendum was to give Ghanaians the power to express their opinions on where District level elections should be done on a partisan basis or not.
The President, earlier indicated, the idea of amending article 55(3) of the constitution was to offer Ghanaians to participate in the country’s governance.
But barely a week of calling off the referendum, it seems the state institutions and politicians seem not to show any interest in the event, which is to elect Assembly and Unit Committee members.
Some people are of the view that, the calling off of the referendum will adversely hurt the turn out of the elections which has always been low.
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has revealed, it had spent Ghc1 million on educations as at the time of the President spoke to call the referendum off.
