The Municipal Chief Executive for West Akyem in the Eastern Region, Mr. Seth Oduro Boadu has said one of the biggest challenges which were giving them nightmares as an Assembly was the continuously unacceptable performance of our school children in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He said the average percentage scores for all the Junior High Schools (JHS) in the Municipality for 2016, 2017 and 2018 were 63%, 55.8% and 60.1% respectively.
Speaking to School Children in Asamankese, Mr. Oduro Boadu said: “It is refreshing to report that, through the efforts of our hard-working Municipal Director of Education and her staff as well as the dynamism of the Municipal Education Oversight Committee, there was a remarkable improvement in our B.E.C.E performance in 2019 with an average Percentage score of 73.4%.”
Mr. Oduro Boadu said the number of Schools with 100% passes increased from seventeen (17) 2018 to Nineteen (19) in 2019 and More importantly, 3 Schools had Zero (0%) in 2018 whiles no School scored zero (0%) in 2019.
The chief executive acknowledged the efforts of Circuit Supervisors, Head Teachers and Teachers, Students, Parents and all other stakeholders who contributed towards this incredible achievement.
The Municipal Assembly Awarded the five (5) students who had Aggregate Six (6) in the B.E.C.E performance in 2019 and they include; 1. Master Armah Ernest – Christ Care
2. Master Idana Samuel – Golden Child
3. Master Adu Clement A. – Christ Care
4. Master Osei Japhet Acquah – Anum M. A. “A” School
5. Miss Lartey Elite Mama – Christ Care
Other awards were given to the best WASSCE student which is Master Okyere Joseph Annu, a Science student of Asamankese Senior High School.
The best Public School for the B.E.C.E the year was Anum M.A “B”.
