As Energy Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh has said he will continue to use every opportunity to canvass the need for stakeholders to understand the reasons that underpin a strengthened local content framework for the sector.
In this regard, the minister opened the 2022 upstream petroleum Local Content Conference and Exhibition in Takoradi.
The program was organised by the Petroleum Commission, a regulator of the sector and was optimistic the conference is returning to its in-person nature, two years after the limitations of the COVID-19 pandemic halted it.
In his remarks, Dr Opoku Prempeh recounted the strong case we made at the just-ended COP27 in Egypt, on the need for massive oil and gas exploration which resonates with me, and is in sync with the theme for the Conference “Sustaining Local Content Development through Enhanced Exploration and Production Activities in Era of Energy Transition”.
He indicated that the vision of the government is to develop a modern, diversified, efficient, and financially sustainable “energy economy” that will ensure that all Ghanaian homes and industries have access to an adequate, reliable, affordable and environmentally-sustainable supply of energy to meet their needs and to support the accelerated growth and development agenda we all envisage for our country.
“We will vigorously use every energy resource at our disposal including the hydrocarbon resource for our own energy security” the minister stated.
He again reiterated his outfit’s absolute commitment to the local content development of the upstream sector emphasizing that it is the single most important vehicle through which Ghanaians would not only be beneficiaries of petroleum receipts but maximise the value of the hydrocarbon resource.
He stressed, “I am confident that the next 3 days will further deepen the frontiers of local content and local participation in our fledgling oil and gas industry”.
