The South African High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Grace Jeanet Mason, called on Samuel Abu Jinapor at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to discuss matters of mutual concern in the mining industry.
Among others, the two discussed the vexed issue of illegal small-scale mining ( galamsey) which in South Africa is called zama zama.
The minister was happy to learn that the South African Police has been following the various measures being implemented by Government to deal with illegal mining in our country.

“The South African Police has, therefore, decided to send a delegation to Ghana, next week, to study the measures we are implementing and to share knowledge and ideas to deal with zama zama. Issues of illegal mining are not peculiar to Ghana. They exist in almost every country with minerals” he stated.
Mr Abu Jinapor emphasised that the Government of President Akufo-Addo is, however, committed to implementing the necessary policies and programmes to deal with this matter and will not relent in our efforts until we come to grips with this menace.
