As part of the strategic measures to combat Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the New Juaben South municipality in the Eastern region has vaccinated ninety-six thousand, seven hundred and thirty-two (96,732) persons.
The World Health Organisation declared the COVID-19 outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) as result of more recorded cases among humans and its Pandemic (wildly spread) nature.
It is an international concern due to the disease mode of spread, incubation period and period of communicability, prevention, and control, cost of treatment, morbidity, mortality (fatality rate), disability, and poverty.
The Director of Health Services at the New Juaben South Municipality, Eunice Abueku affirmed the campaign against Covid-19 has help prevent many deaths and spread of the pandemic.
Speaking to the media in the Eastern region, Eunice Abueku indicated the New Juaben South Municipality has been able to vaccinate one hundred and one thousand three hundred and three people within the municipality (101,303) as at the time of the media engagement.
She again averred that the municipality had also recorded thousand five hundred and five cases (1505) and seventy-four (74) deaths following its first confirmed case on 8th May, 2020.
“The National Covid-19 Immunization Day ‘Round 5’ is taking place in health centers, schools, markets, churches, Communities, bus stations, and your neighborhood to vaccinate all eligible persons. The millions of Ghanaians that have been vaccinated, have helped reduce COVID-19 cases. But COVID-19 is still with us and not over yet; everyone is still at risk, and the cases are being recorded”.
“COVID-19 vaccines are available at health centers and vaccination posts in your neighborhood to vaccinate all eligible persons aged 15 years and above adding that COVID-19 vaccines still remain the best protection against severe illness, hospitalization, and death of COVID – 19 diseases. Vaccines are safe, effective, and free” the Municipal Health Director of Health Services emphasised.
Madam Eunice Abueku explained that Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson are given to persons Aged 18 years old and above, while Pfizer is for persons aged 15-year-olds and above whiles pregnant women are eligible to receive Moderna or Pfizer vaccines adding that the booster dose is recommended for all and people with underlying conditions
‘‘Persons who have taken Johnson and Johnson, two (2) doses of either Pfizer, AstraZeneca, or Moderna Vaccines are eligible for booster dose after 3 – 6 months,’’ she said.
She therefore, urged the public to continue to wear your face mask; As and when needed, wash your hands with soap under running water; use alcohol-based hand sanitizer and keep physical distancing.
