In his capacity as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu met with colleague members of the Core Leadership of Parliament, Leaders of selected Committees, Management and some members of the Advisory Board of the Ministry.
These periodic meetings, at the instance of the Ministry, create a platform for candid discussions on issues aimed at deepening democratic governance in Ghana.
The theme for our interaction; “Parliament and the Harnessing of Democratic Dividend: An Assessment” brought out issues germane to Parliament’s contribution to our democratic development.
According to the Majority Leader, “Sir Winston’s Churchill’s quotation “democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others that have been tried” vindicates our chosen framework of governance as a country”.
“This is evidenced by the durability 4th Republic, and thus, placing an onerous duty on all to ensure that we “establish [and preserve] a framework of government which shall secure for ourselves and posterity the blessings of liberty, equality of opportunity and prosperity ….” as enjoined by the Preamble of the 1992 Constitution. May we continue to share in this common interest; the need for peace and stability for a sustainable democratic development for the nation”.
He added, “We are thankful for how far we have come as a country and believe that amending the 1992 Constitution will help consolidate the gains we have made as a country in our current democratic dispensation”.
