Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong says the beautification of Koforidua, the Regional capital will begin in 2023.
He said Koforidua will be given a facelift to benefit regional capital status, and boost hospitality and tourism potentials.
“our region is unique and special and we have very beautiful landscapes with hospitalities and tourism potentials associated with our proximity to the national capital thus making the region a national conference and meeting preference point”. The Minister said this Thursday during Carols night organized by the Regional Coordinating Council.
“We, therefore, in addition, give our regional capital Koforidua a facelift by beautifying our town, keeping our environment clean just as the assembly delivered to us and tidy as well as putting some paints on our buildings”
He said some institutional buildings will be painted.
“We started some conversations about coordinating council with our extended departments and I believe in the just approved budget line items will be made for painting and beautification of the various departments that we all work “.
Touching on other issues in the region, the Minister said, in spite of the economic challenges the region continues to undertake critical developmental activities to improve the living standards of the people.
He however said lessons have been learnt going forward.
“The global economic downturn within the year has taught us a lot of valuable lessons. we therefore would want to approach the new year with an attitude of fitness as usual. We have to plan and be representatives of the plans in so doing we would be able to confront the obstacles that impede our plans and the progress of the region.
We cannot continue to depend on human strength all the time, like the Psalm says “unless the Lord builds the house he labour remain hope helter, some put their trust in chariots, others in horses but we put our trust in the name of our Lord, we, therefore, know that if we commit our plans to our Lord in the coming years will see us through”
He said engagements have been done to create job opportunities for the youth.
“We began a series of engagements with our stakeholders, the development and the global foundation. This engagement is to solicit the support and offer a tangible solution to the myriad of developmental challenges being faced, the region as we all agree is very rich with natural resources, and these when tapped will create numerous job opportunities”
