Ambassador of Denmark, Tom Nørring was the keynote speaker at the West and Central Africa Regional Conference on Collective Action against Maritime Corruption.
The two-day conference, 19-20 January, hosted by the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (which is headquartered in Denmark) and the Convention on Business Integrity, had participation from Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Senegal and Cameroon.
The main take away from Ambassador Tom Nørring’s speech was for public and private sector to work together to put transparent measures in place to prevent corruption in order to harness the potential of the blue economy for Africa.
The Ambassador underlined the importance of not only speaking out, but actually walking the anti-corruption talk.
Also, Ghana’s Minister for Public Enterprises – Hon. Joseph Cudjoe (speaking on behalf of the Vice President) made clear references to the need for fighting corruption being the main obstacle to sustainable development.
Participation in today’s conference was a natural extension of the already close collaboration that the Embassy has with Ghana and other West African countries on maritime security and maritime sector development.
