SDA College of Education at Asokore Koforidua in the Eastern region has reduced admission from over 700 to 250 due to cut off point order by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
According to Mr Gabriel Amoah Dapaa, Assistant Secretary in charge of Admission and Records at the college, the GTEC gave the order to all colleges of education across the country for the 2023 academic year.
He has, however, indicated the SDA college of education cannot admit more than the slot been given to them and therefore called on the public to understand the issue at hand.
Mr Gabriel Amoah Dapaa revealed the college is prepared to receive successful applicants who may qualify for admission.
He emphasised the new development will surely affect internally generated funds mobilisation target as the drop seem to be too wide as expected.
“It is a directive from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission as part of yearly review of how many students colleges are permitted to admit. We are ready for any number of students since we admitted over 700 last academic year but I think the directive is the final decision and we are going to go by it” he stated.
Mr Gabriel Amoah Dapaa also spoke about what makes the SDA college of education unique from other colleges in the country.
He stressed that the college has developed many ways of ensuring students have the best of education throughout their stay and be able to utilise it well after school.
The Asokore SDA College of Education has over the years produced many teachers who have contributed immensely to the academic development of the country’s educational sector.
Meanwhile, some fresh admitted students who spoke to the reporter were satisfied with the smooth system of registration process and optimistic of having a wonderful study at the college.
Also, information available to Bryt fm news desk also revealed that most Colleges of Education are not enthused about the latest development since there are enough spaces to admit more students.
The directive has also denied most qualified applicants the opportunity to continue their tertiary education with the cut off point activated.
