After the party’s leadership in the legislative chamber changed, the national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will meet with their Members of Parliament later today.
The meeting had been scheduled for January 31, 2023, however, it was postponed due to an intervention by the party’s Council of Elders.
Later, the party changed the time of the gathering to today, February 6, 2023, in Parliament.
The conference was called as a result of the opposition to the Minority’s leadership change, which saw Cassiel Ato-Forson succeed Haruna Iddrisu as a leader.
The meeting between the party leadership and the minority caucus, according to political scientist Abdul Jahlil Ateku, is a chance for all issues related to the change in leadership to be amicably resolved.
“Looking at the situation, the party leadership argues that they had a consultation with people who say there was none. I think that this is an opportunity to iron out the differences. That is the most important thing for them now. They discuss the issues and get the support of the new leadership.”
The goal of the meeting is to obtain the support of all angry Minority MPs while outlining the rationale for the reorganization to the caucus.
After the national executives of the NDC changed the group’s leadership, there was discord among the participants.
