Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, MP for Asuogyaman, on Tuesday celebrated this year’s Valentine/Chocolate day which also coincides with his birthday with Children of Kojokpo, Dorlakofe and Tankaskorfe, all in Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.
He marked the day with the starting of a new kindergarten at Dorlakofe, a very hard to reach community about 5km away from Gyakiti on the bank of the Volta Lake.
Children from these three fishing communities, walk everyday, with those from Kojokpo, an island, having to cross the Volta Lake to Dorlakofe before walking with their counterparts to and from Gyakiti in order to access Basic Education.
The opening of this KG will therefore alleviate these little children from the stress they go through in order to access kindergarten education.
Until the Asuogyaman District Education Directorate absorbs the new school into the government’s system, the Member of Parliament has offered to pay the monthly salary of a teacher that has volunteered to start teaching the children.
He has also donated a motorcycle to the teacher to aid his movement to and from the school.
In addition to the tables, chairs, books and other teaching and learning materials that the MP has procured to start the school with, he has also offered to supply food for the feeding of the children at least every Friday.
Present were officials from the Asuogyaman District Education Directorate led by the District Director of Education; Madam Augustina Owusu, the Akosombo District Pastor of Global Evangelical Church; Rev. Eliya Srebi and Wife; Rev. Mrs Love Srebi, the Headmen of the three beneficiary communities and other opinion leaders from the communities.
