Francis Asenso-Boakye led a team of experts from the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Ghana Hydrological Authority to inspect the drainage infrastructure of Accra, with the objective of assessing the City’s readiness ahead of the raining season.
The visit took them to Teshie, Tse Addo, Labadi, Haatso, Roman Ridge and Bortianor.
The minister observed that even though government continues to invest so much in the construction of drainage infrastructure and desilting works, a section of the public, regrettably, are still engaged in the indiscriminate disposal of solid waste in our drainage channels and unlawfully building in waterways.
Hon. Asenso-Boakye urged the respective municipal Authorities to live up to their responsibilities to avoid any potential disaster during the rainy season.
“If these practices are not halted, we risk exposing our communities to the devastating effects of flooding, that leads to the unfortunate loss of human lives, livelihoods and properties” he stressed.
