The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong has stated that it is very important for Ghanaians to stay united as we celebrate the 66th independence anniversary.
He emphasised that ‘Ghana is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic society and it is a land of diversity with people of different religions, customs, cultures and traditions. We have different festivals, fashion and lifestyles but despite all this variedness, Ghana remains one nation; it seems as if the whole country is bound with an invisible common thread”.
The Minister indicated that it is only unity that can surmount any challenges to deal with any challenges the country may face as the development of our society and country largely depends on it.
‘‘Unity helps to grow, no one can grow alone and we need support from each other. If we want to grow in business, we need team members. If we have to achieve big success in our society, we need to work together towards unity that gives us courage and hope,’’ the Minister added.
He urged Ghanaians to take full responsibility in its quest to protect our sovereignty.
The Minister affirmed that “we must celebrate the collective energies and sacrifices of our forebears who fought for our freedom from the clutches of British imperialism, to celebrate the final achievement of the struggle of successive generations of Ghanaian patriots to establish a free, sovereign Ghana”.
‘‘We have no reason to rest on our oars for as long as we have not achieved our economic goals. We should count our many blessings and not talk ourselves down unnecessarily all the time. It surely must count for something that our nation has been spared the awful experiences of civil wars that other countries on the continent have suffered. The peace and stability we are enjoying as a nation must not be compromised by any attempt or whatsoever,’’ the Minister averred.
The theme for this year’s Independence Anniversary has been entitled “our unity, our strength, our purpose.”
The Eastern Regional Minister disclosed this in a speech during the 66th independence day celebration, held on monday, 6th march, 2023 at the jubilee park, Koforidua.
