Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah has inaugurated new Magistrate court complex at Akyem New Tafo in Abuakwa North Municipality in Eastern region.
The project is part of the 100 courthouses and accompanying residential facilities for Magistrates being built nationwide by government through the district assembly common fund.
The new court complex has ancillary offices such as Judge chambers, Registrar office ,ADR room, Exhibit room,Police post and Cell, large capacity sitting room furnished with furniture and computers, among other offices.
The Chief Justice of Ghana, His Lordship Kwasi Anin-Yeboah in his address said ,the judiciary is the backbone of rule of law and democracy and a strong judicial system is essential to democracy and good governance.
He reiterated that the primary duty of the court is to administer justice without fear or favour , therefore he urged the judiciary to be fair and effective to reflect the needs and concerns of everyone , women and men , children and adult , the poor and the rich.
Additionally , he advised the magistrate and the staffs to eschew acts that are inimical to the promotion of justice without fear or favour and exhibit a high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their duty.
Chief Justice urged residents to take advantage of the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) system to resolve matters which are not criminal in nature for speedy justice delivery to reduce workload on the regular court.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Abuakwa North Municipality , Hon.Alhaji Umar Bodinga said the district court in Tafo had operated in makeshift structures since establishment adding it is currently being operated in an ICT Center.
He lauded the chief of Akyem Tafo , Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV for allocating a piece of land for the project to ensure that the municipality is endowed with effective justice administrative system to complement the social economic development drive of the municipality.
Alhaji Umar Bodinga added that justice delayed is justice denied therefore to gain the trust of the people , he urged management of the newly commissioned district court to ensure effective justice delivery in discharge of the court duty.
Chief of Akyem Tafo, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV appealed to government through the Chief Justice His Lordship Kwasi Anin- Yeboah to properly regulate laws that will mandate traditional courts to administer justice on non criminal cases to complement justice delivery in the country.
The chief explained that there are certain cases which require traditional courts to administer judgement in the shortest possible time but such cases when referred to the regular courts travel for a very long time frustrating those involved and making them waste all their resources.
Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV added that when traditional courts are giving such mandates to operate , it will instill discipline in the people living in the communities because of the fear that cases can easily be reported to the authorities.
The Chiefs Justice similarly inaugurated two other courthouses Osino in Fanteakwa South District and Koforidua in New Juaben South Municipality .
