A 28 year old mason apprentice , Kingsley Asare, has become the first accused to be arraigned before the newly built Akyem Tafo District Court after it was inaugurated by the Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah.
Accused , Kingsley Asare has been charged with threat of death contrary to section 75 of criminal offences Acts,Act 29/60 and Assault contrary to section 84 of Criminal Offences Act .
Prosecuting officer ,Detective chief Inspector Barnabas Mends told the court presided over by Mrs . Josephine Osarfo Esq that, complaints in the case are Charles Kyere is 67 year old pensioner , and Esther Boahemaa,64, unemployed husband and wife at Akyem Osiem in the Easter n r egion
Grandmother of the accused Ama Adu is stepmother to the complainant Esther Boahemaa .
In August 2022 ,Ama Adu rented a room from the complainant Esther Boahemaa and gave it to the accused person.
In January 2023, Esther Boahemaa told the accused she can no longer live in the house with him because of his bad character therefore must pack out.
On March 4,2023 at about 2:30pm , complainants were seated in front of their room when accused accosted them with cutlass and knife to demand his rent balance threatening to kill to take their lives .
Accused left the scene and returned with more aggressiveness and held the shirt of Charles Kyere and pulled him to the floor .
Complainants went to the police station to report .
On March 5,2023 complainants gave the rent balance to the accused who packed out from the room.
On March 7,2023 at about 10:40am ,the accused went back to Esther Boahemaa’s house with cutlass claiming the balance given him was not up to the expected amount .
He threatened to kill her if she doesn’t give him the difference .
Esther Boahemaa’s younger brother suddenly appeared at the scene and with the help of others arrested the accused to the police station .
He pleaded guilty to charges of threat of death and assault ,and was granted bail to reappear in court a week later .
