Islamic police in Nigeria’s northern Kano state has issued a warning that anyone found eating in public during Ramadan will be punished.
Muslims are required to fast from dawn till sunset during the entire holy month.
In a statement, the religious police force, known as Hisbah Board, also said their forces have been deployed to mosques to ensure the safety of people and property over the month-long fast of Ramadan.
Hisbah Board enforces Islamic law in Kano, a largely Muslim state.
