South Africa’s former Paralympics star and convicted murderer, Oscar Pistorius, has lost his parole hearing.
Pistorius has served half his 13-year sentence for murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
He denied the charges and said he had mistaken her for an intruder. He was hoping to be freed from prison today.
According to a statement by the justice department, the inmate did not complete the minimum detention period as ruled by the Supreme Court of Appeal and will be able to reapply for parole in another year.
