John Dumelo, a politician and actor from Ghana, has expressed his outrage at the country’s new 10% tax on gambling earnings.
Dumelo expressed his displeasure on Twitter for government not doing enough to help young people find jobs and for adding to their financial worries.
In his tweet, Dumelo said, “Create jobs, you won’t create. The youth have created their own jobs too ahhh, you want to tax their winnings…..continue. That day will come when the youth will rise against you. It will be too late.”
Dumelo’s remarks follow the government’s implementation of a 10% tax on all bets, winnings from games of chance, and winnings from lotteries, as well as a 20% tax on the profits of betting organisations doing business in the nation.
