The passing of Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto, a former minister of monitoring and evaluation, has been characterized by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a major setback for his administration.
After a brief illness, the former Old Tafo MP passed away on Monday, March 20.
Akufo-Addo said the government and the NPP will miss the late MP very much at a meeting with the late MP’s family at Jubilee House.
“I have known Akoto Osei for a very long time, and we’ve been friends for a long time. In the 80s, he used to visit me at my house in Silver Springs in Washington, so I am actually part of his family. He has helped our party in many diverse ways, the Kufuor government and my government, so this death is really painful for all of us.”
Dr. Akoto Osei served as the Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term, from 2017 to 2021, and was a member of parliament for the Old Tafo Constituency for 16 years.
The late MP was honored by Parliament on Tuesday, March 21. Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin assured the family of the House’s solidarity during this difficult time.
