Following the partnership agreement of $6.7 million signed between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to improve the overall performance of the NHIS and boost quality healthcare services in Ghana, a one-day post-award orientation on the implementation of the Agreement has been organized for both parties at the NHIA head office in Accra.
The orientation was focused on the various terms of the agreement and also discussed the roles and expectations of both parties.
The financial management of the project was thoroughly discussed including reporting formats, monitoring, and evaluation activities, and the development of work plans among others for the smooth implementation of the project.
Last month the US Ambassador to Ghana Madam Virginia Palmer joined the CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, his deputies; Mrs. Vivian Addo-Cobbiah, Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden, Mr. Francis Owusu and the Deputy Minister for Finance Hon. Abena Osei Asare to launch this new five-year partnership.
USAID is the leading U.S. Government agency that has as part of its objectives to end extreme global poverty and enable resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential whilst the NHIA on the other hand is the leading Ghana Government Agency tasked with the responsibility to provide access to healthcare and the attainment of Universal Health Coverage in Ghana.
