Former general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has asserted that many Ghanaians have the opinion that politics is a great avenue to make money and for that matter, they no longer respect politicians because of their own behaviour.
He claims that despite there being some sincere politicians among them, the actions of a few politicians have led to the stereotyping of all politicians.
He claims that the majority of Ghanaians view politics as a way to get quick money and no longer respect politicians because they believe they are using their positions of power to benefit themselves.
“If you look at the results of surveys conducted, the respect that Ghanaians have has reduced because the majority of them are holding the view that politics is an avenue for making money”, he disclosed on Kumasi-based Hello FM.
The former presidential spokesperson revealed that it is in the interest of politicians to alter the narrative by acting in a way that restores the confidence of the Ghanaian people.
“This is so because of the conduct exhibited by some politicians in the country. Those are the bad examples that we should not follow. It should take some of us the politicians to change the narrative.” He urged.
