Former president John Mahama has said emphatically that the country’s economy was far better during his tenure as president than it is today, as he bemoaned the current economic difficulties Ghanaians are experiencing.
According to him, the Akufo-Addo administration has utterly failed to keep the promises it made to Ghanaians in the run-up to the 2016 elections.
The NDC candidate for flagbearer said that the incumbent administration had tricked Ghanaians into supporting them in the aforementioned elections.
Speaking to party supporters in the Upper West Region, Mr. Mahama claimed that the general populace was in a better financial position in 2016 than they are now.
He, therefore, exhorted the party members to work hard to ensure that the party returns to power so that it can put into effect policies that will improve Ghanaians’ lot in life.
“In 2016 all the lies they told and all the propaganda they told, Ghanaians can now see. All the preaching that we were sitting on money, and yet we are hungry and the claims that Ghanaians were suffering, Ghanaians are now suffering more than they were in 2016.
“Any work that anyone does, you hardly get profit. I can beat my chest and say in 2016 our lives were far better than we are today,” Mr Mahama said.
