MANIFESTO OF BISMARK NANA OPPONG, ASPIRING ASSEMBLYMAN FOR YAANE ELECTORAL AREA
MOTTO: A UNITED FRONT FOR A NEW DIRECTION: YAANE MOVING ONTO GREATNESS
Jumapo over the years have seen tremendous changes, from sanitation, health, education, security just to mention a few. All these were made possible by the hard work of successive governments, MPs, MCEs, and assemblymen in the area and we will forever remain grateful to them for making Jumapo the “SMALL LONDON” we all know.
The president of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to decentralize development to every part of the country has therefore necessitated and empowered the existence of assemblymen in the community by making them the fulcrum to development in the community.
The assemblyman being the first call to the wellbeing of the indigenes and development of the town must be affable, selfless, committed, ready to serve and available at all times to the children, youth and the aged. Because of this, I, Bismark Nana Oppong avail myself to the people of Jumapo, to serve them for the next four years to create wealth and employment together in the capacity of an assemblyman.
Before I outline my vision for the next four years when voted into power, I will like to acknowledge my predecessors for the great work they have done maintaining peace and unity in the community, not forgetting the chief and his subjects for their contributions. These are few challenges that have been addressed by the previous assemblymen but I would like to improve upon what they have already started and also add some policies that I will work on to empower our socio-economic livelihood status in the community.
SANITATION
Jumapo has been one of the most enviable towns in the eastern region; it is of no surprise we have a nicknamed called “SMALL LONDON”. From history, Jumapo stands tall in terms of sanitation and set torment planning. Our forefathers left behind a clean community with an uncontaminated source of water and with good drainage systems, no wonder we are not victims of flooding whenever it rains. As a matter of urgency, we have the responsibility of protecting what was left behind by our forefather because we should have it in mind that posterity will judge us someday.
In our part of keeping the community clean and healthy, we are being faced with huge, tall and stinging refuse sites in the community. Various attempts have been made for the clearing of this stinging refuse from the community but unfortunately, those attempts have proved futile. As I speak I have engaged with some investors to establish a warehouse here in Jumapo so that our refuse can be recycling and to gives Jobs to the people of Jumapo especially the youth. Even though I acknowledge the MCE Hon Comfort Asante for removing these refuse even though it was costive
With these challenges, when voted as the assemblyman for Yaane Electoral Area(Youngest) ever, I will devise a way to segregate the materials that cannot decompose (plastic and rubber waste) from the soil. The soil that will remain after the segregation is high in nutrients needed for plant growth. We can gather and sell this loamy soil to organizations involved in nursing seedlings. We can also sell to horticulturist for landscape designing. This burden now serves to generate income and also a source of employment.
However, to properly manage waste and maintain good sanitation in the town, we need to have an attitudinal change, to change the archaic way of doing things. I intend to start with this attitudinal change from our schools. Therefore I will liaise with heads of schools, churches, and mosques to inculcate teachings on sanitation in their programs.
I will also propose to the municipal assembly to provide the community with waste bins to be placed at vantage points for indigenes to easily access and drop waste into it.
AGRICULTURE
Agriculture has seen a great decline within the last decade in Jumapo. There has been a decline in cocoa production and general agriculture products due to loss of interest from the youth and inadequate or no extension officers at jumapo.
When voted into power, I will liaise with schools in the community and the district director of Agriculture to start the FOFAS (Food Farms for Schools) policy implemented by the government. Schools are giving farm inputs and other logistic for free to do this program. This will at the end ginger the interest of agriculture in our Junior high school’s pupils.
I also intend to form groups within the community to engage them in farming. We will engage the chief, municipal assembly, banks, and the diaspora to come to our aid with resources like land, farm inputs, credit, etc to easily implement the planting for food and job policy by the government in our community. This will serve as a source of employment for a hundred youths in the community.
Jumapo is endowed with a lot of natural resources, these natural resources include clay deposit, bamboo, water resources, trees, etc but unfortunately, these resources are being underutilized. When voted as the assemblyman, I will engage the assembly through the District Director of Agriculture to have WIAD (Women in Agriculture Development) programs in the community for our women to explore and learn more in utilizing our natural resources to the benefit of all.
LIVELIHOOD EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
Unemployment has been on the rise for over a decade now; most of our teaming unemployed youth are engaged in prostitution, stealing and other social vices that are not acceptable by the laws of the country.
In solving this menace, I will engage the chief and people of Jumapo to use some percentage of the money accrued from the use of the community center and other social amenities within the community to sponsor ten children in apprenticeship and other artisan work every year. This will greatly reduce the burden on vulnerable children working hard to achieve their dreams.
EDUCATION
Over the years education in Jumapo has been hit with a major setback which calls for stakeholders to take action now. BECE results have deteriorated massively due to parents not taking keen interest in the studies of their wards, inadequate books, and other logistics also play a major factor in the decline of results.
I will engage ABENA, the winner of the 2018 GHANA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL and use her fame and networks judiciously to attract other NGOs and cooperate bodies to help our children with textbooks and other logistics.
There will be a fund in recognition of the best student in the community and the best female candidate within the public schools after the BECE results have been released. The fund will cater to its prospectus within the first term.
SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT
Jumapo for most of the years has been breeding grounds where talents have been unearthing and nurtured in football, athletics, music, and acting. From the days of Elephas to the Moon Fc, Jumapo has provided the opportunity to young sportsmen to realize their dreams. In this view, I will engage schools in the community to keenly organize the inter-schools sports competition. I also intend to form a second division football team with the help of interested stakeholders.
On entertainment, it is no doubt that Agoro Nananom homecoming programs organized by Mr. Teddy Moore and his crew have been of immense help to the community. Yaw Dabo and KooNtakra all started realizing their dreams from their stage. When voted as the assemblyman I will do my best in repackaging this annual event to give the youth interested in music and acting the opportunity to showcase their talents.
HEALTH
Our health center has received a major facelift in the last couple of years, within a year we have witnessed the construction of doctors and nurses quarters by the MP and a modern washroom being built by Jumapo in the diaspora.
As Oliver Twist opined “always ask for more” I will use my firm as a broadcast journalist to engage stakeholders and propose to the Member of Parliament and the municipal chief executive to upgrade our health center to the status of a district hospital since Jumapo is the center to adjoining communities in terms proximity and has the potential in terms of existing infrastructure and resources.
SECURITY
As a very young and energetic Journalist, I believe in our securities. Of late, a lot of our street lights are not working and so far as Jumapo keeps trending I will use my firm as a Journalist to lobby for more lights and liaise with the ECG to provide us electricity at large. Even though I have started fixing some of the street lights I will do more.
Notwithstanding our policemen too will be enhanced and support them with their works especially night patrols. I will form watchdogs to ends robbing and been able to identify ourselves and to be able to identify foreigners who visit us as we are approaching Christmas.
I indulge all to come out and vote massively for me on the 17th December 2019 to achieve the full potential and harness our resources to create wealth and a better life for ourselves. Am number Five(5) on the ballot paper (JESUS). Isha Allahu I believe the people in Jumapo especially those in Yaane Electoral Area will crown me on the 17th December as the first-ever youngest Assemblyman. Thank you.
