Commuters who ply Donkorkrom road in Afram Plains North district in Eastern region are stranded following collapse of a bridge on the road.
The bridge on Adeemra stretch of the Donkorkrom road was washed away after heavy downpour Wednesday.
This has made the road unmotorable to the extent that residents on foot are struggling to also cross.
A resident said “Prior to the heavy downpour yesterday, the bridge on the Adeemra to Donkorkrom road has broken and residents are finding it very difficult to travel. Leaders, Heads & Elders have heard and see the happenings and we believe the necessary measures are being put in place.
The Police are currently on the scene assisting individuals, cross safely via a wooden board. Let people be advised if you are driving/riding from Agordeke, Amankwakrom and it’s environs towards Donkorkrom”.
Roads in Afram Plains continue to deteriorate despite being a major food basket in Ghana.
Parliament approved a total of €350 million commercial contract agreements for financing the construction of two major roads and a bridge to bolster agricultural productivity in the Afram Plains area .
However the projects have not started.
