The 29th Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) took place on Monday, July 10, 2023.
The congress which took place at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Sciences and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi was for the Ghana FA to have their annual meeting ahead of the start of the 2023/24 season.
In his speech, the President of the Ghana FA, Kurt Okraku, announced numerous packages aimed at developing Ghana football at large.
Below are the key points from his speech:
- The GFA, through a partnership with Ghana Tourism Authority will give each Division One club two sets of jerseys.
- Division One clubs will EACH receive GH¢80,000 next season as incentives
- I’m not interested in destroying the brand, Ghana football. If I indeed you love Ghana football you should be interested in building the brand and not to be destroyed. When we took over, this brand was badly damaged.
- Each Ghana Premier League club is to be supported with GHC 50,000 for setting up a youth team. Clubs would also get 25,000 when two of their youth players feature in more than 15 games.
- We will invest GHS300,000 to help in the payment of referee fees in regions. Clubs don’t have to take the burden alone.
- Our heroes, our ex-national team players to be interested in coaching. We want to offer them facilities that would encourage them to go into coaching. One of the facilities will be a 50% discount in payment relating to the acquisition of coaching licenses to our ex-national team players.
- The solution to our football problems is not to forge documents and defame people. If you are interested in leading football, then speak football. There are some people at the GFA who go into the administrative part of the game, fish out for documents and information and push them to the public to destroy some individuals at the FA and the Association as a whole. By virtue of where I sit, I hold files that can defame and malign people in Ghana football ecosystem. But I would not do that!
- We will invest $100,000 into to colt’s football. This money will serve as a means of buying football to our kids.
- We promise to do better in the upcoming season and also continue to develop the game. An amount of GHC 300,000 will be pushed to the referee’s Committee to be fully funded and help develop the Catch Them Young Referees as well.
- Ashantigold SC have been suspended officially from the Ghana Football Association following a congress decision. After a vote by headcount was conducted, 67 voted in favour of suspension while 17 voted against the motion.
