Energy minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh led a delegation from the energy sector to hold discussions with the Mayor of Houston, Texas USA, Mr. Sylvester Turner, who is leading a trade and investment delegation from his city on a working visit to Ghana.
The minister had the opportunity and the privilege of meeting the Mayor in Houston last year during the Africa Energy Summit, and again at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in 2021.
On both occasions, we had very fruitful discussions, and it was a pleasure to see him and his team again, this time on Ghanaian soil.
In his remarks during the meeting, Dr. Opoku Prempeh acknowledged Houston as the energy capital of the world, which made this visit particularly significant in respect of the opportunities for investment, collaboration and strategic partnerships in the sector.
He further highlighted the work that President Akufo-Addo’s government has done over the past six years in opening up access to education and skills training as a critical base for leveraging on the opportunities that investment will provide.
Historically, the United States has played key roles in investing infrastructure and technology in places like post-war Japan and Germany. On the back of this, I expressed the fact that as a continent with huge mineral wealth and a youthful, growing population that is kkkkk and willing to work, Africa can and should benefit from the sort noof investment from places like the USA that can help lift her out of the doldrums.
The United States has been an invaluable partner in several sectors, including the energy sector. I am confident that today’s engagement marks a new chapter in the warm relations between our two sides and look forward to positive outcomes for our respective countries.
