The brouhaha of teachers strike has taken a different dimension, as a section of the public are calling for the head of Education minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Director General of the Ghana Education Service(GES), Mr. Opoku Amankwaato
The call, follows comments by the duo, in relation with the nationwide strike by teachers since Monday, 9th December, 2019 over legacy debt areas.
The Education minister is on record of attributing the strike action to an influence by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), a comment some people has described as insulting, on the personality of teachers.
The Director General of the GES, Mr. Opoku Amankwaah is also bashed out for indicating that, government would have no other choice but to engage the services of new teachers, if the striking teachers fail to call off the strike action.
The comments by these two high profile stakeholders in the education sector, has not bring taken lightly by most Ghanaians and are calling for their removal from office.
Some Ghanaians are of the view, it is long overdue for the President to take bold decision and do reshuffle as most appointees are becoming “big headed”.
“You can’t tell all the teachers that they are been influenced by a political party. Are they not wise enough to take their own decisions? Sometimes, we must do away with such cheap politics” some angry Ghanaians noted.
In a related development, the National Labour Commission has revealed, it is considering of taking legal action against the striking teachers, indicating, their action is illegal.
The teacher unions failed to honour invitation by the Commission on Tuesday, 10th December, 2019, an action it describe as unfortunate.
