A Stakeholders workshop organized by the Ghana Maritime Authority on the implementation of the Cabotage Law has taken place in Takoradi.
The primary objective of the Regulation is to reserve the transportation of goods and services to indigenous Ghanaian companies and vessels.
With the introduction of the Regulations, vessels operating within the space need to fly the Ghana flag and be manned by Ghanaian crew. Specifically, the Regulations reserve
75% of Ratings and 50% of Officers positions on board to Ghanaian Seafarers.
The workshop was attended by officials from the Petroleum Commission, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Fisheries & Aquaculture Ghana Investment Production Council, Eni Ghana, Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Tullow Oil and many more.
The stakeholders interacted, exchanged knowledge, and jointly indicated support for the implementation of the Regulations and underscored the importance of such a move to the Ghanaian maritime industry and economy.
