Two illegal miners were forced by furious Minister of Roads and Highway Kwasi Amoako Atta to wash and clean mud left on portions of tarred Akrofufu to Twapease road in Atiwa West District in Eastern region.
The Minister and his constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were returning from funeral in Twapease over the weekend when they saw the illegal miners moving an excavator with low bird truck vehicle from their mining site near the roadside muddying the entire stretch of road causing heavy traffic .
The Minister who is also Member of Parliament for Atiwa West area became very angry ,got down from his vehicle and ordered his body guard(a police officer) to arrest the illegal miners and seize their equipment.
Some of the illegal miners managed to escape but two were arrested.
The illegal miners were forced to wash and clean mud on about one kilometer of the road .
They were handed over subsequently to the Kwabeng Police for further investigation.
Amoako Atta noted that, the activities of the illegal miners have caused destruction to shoulders and embarkment of the road recently constructed by government with lots of financial commitment.
He called on the police to arrest the owners of the excavators and the low bird Program.
He declared zero tolerance to Galamsey in the area stating that begining this week he will collaborate with the District Chief Executive for the area and the police to clamp down on all illegal miners .
He said the President has shown enough commitment putting his presidency on the line to fight this menace therefore anybody either politician, chief engaged in galamsey must be arrested and prosecuted.
