The Assembly member for Bibiani Newtown/Kyekyere electoral area Mr. Samuel Kwagyire, popularly known as Sir PKK has sympathised with the victims of the Bibiani market fire outbreak which occurred on early morning Friday 25th August, 2023.
In an interaction with the victims today Thursday 31th August, 2023, Sir P-KAY said he understands and feels the pain of traders and others who were affected by the fire disaster.
“I extend my heartfelt sympathy to all who suffered physical harm or loss of livelihood from this incident and called for a speedy probe into the issue.
“We hope that a speedy investigation will be carried out to identify the true cause of the fire and measures put in place to prevent any future occurrence.”
He uses the opportunity to appeal to the Municipal Assembly and other benevolent organizations to support the victims to recover their lost livelihoods in what is already a dire economic situation.”
At the scene, it was observed that details of the victims including their names, contacts, items destroyed among others were being taken by an official of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide the victims with the necessary assistance.
Mr.Abdulai Kaitoo, the Bibiani zonal NADMO Officer, said the visit was undertaken to express sympathy to those who lost properties and investments.
He also explained that it was a visit to assess the situation on the ground and make recommendation to the Assembly for assistance.
He therefore appealed to the public to adhere to fire educations.
Victims of the fire outback started counting their losses during the visit.
Speaking to Hamza Mohammed, Mr. Frank Abeka popularly known as Barima Nkwan a chop bar operator and explained that he was at home when he had a call to inform him that his chop bar together with other shops at the market had been guttered by fire.
He added that he was shocked when he got to the scene and saw the fire.
“I quickly broke the door and with a help of some area boys, I was able to save some of my items but unfortunately all my meat and soaps, TV, sounds system and decoders were taken away by unknown person” he narrated.
Another victim, Madam Martha Maladan , a vegetable mill machine owner, noted that she was asleep and heard her phone belling only to receive a call from a family member about the fire outbreak.
She added that when she got to the scene, her shop was totally burnt down and was left dejected because the milling machine was the only source of her livelihood.
Mr Sylvester Sontare, sharing his thoughts on the fire outbreak, said he lost all he had as his whole life was dependent on all that had been razed down.
He therefore called on authorities to support them in these difficult times.
