The Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (ATUPA) held its annual conference in Accra, Ghana and I was privileged to be a guest speaker.
The event, held at Accra International Conference Center, centered around the theme “Mainstreaming TVET for Skills Development, Mobility, and Resilience Economies in Africa”, and it brought together representatives from technical universities, polytechnics, vocational institutions, and educational policymakers from various African countries.
Its purpose was to foster collaboration and dialogue on advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the continent, focusing on equipping individuals with practical skills, enhancing mobility, and contributing to the resilience of African economies.
The event featured a series of keynote speeches that covered a wide range of topics including curriculum development, industry partnerships, digitalization of TVET, and strategies for improving the image of technical and vocational education.
Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum shared insights into best practices, successful case studies, and innovative approaches to integrating TVET into the broader education landscape.
He further urged participating leaders and stakeholders to build an ecosystem of education, a TVET of innovation with a strong science background so we can perfectly situate TVET in our industry and notice its full potential.
The journey for Africa’s transformation begins now. With oneness and unity, let us look at having a TVET system that will transform Africa and its fortunes.
