The former Ashanti regional chairman for the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Mr A. S Osei Yaw has called on the EC to make provision to create more registration centres to expedite the process of the ongoing limited voters registration exercise.
He has appealed to the EC boss to allow election of more people as Unite Committee Members to augment the duties of the assembly members in the various communities.
He said the work of the assembly members has become more tedious, so there is the need to allow more people contesting for the Unite Committee slot positions.
Mr A. S Osei Yaw seized the opportunity to urge Madam Jean Mensah to pay attention to the numerous calls from the other political parties raising concerns about the ongoing exercise.
“At times one assembly member can serve about four communities so I think there’s the need to improve upon the local government elections to enable about seven people from one community to go for the Unit Committee Membership position, this will augment the duties of the assembly members. However, I believe the system must change to enable more people into it so that they can help their respective communities’’, he noted.
He stated”, The EC Boss, Mrs Jean Mensah, must listen to what Ghanaians are saying and create more registration centres to enable faster registration process. She should listen to what the masses are saying so that there can be smooth and peaceful registration exercise”.
