Mr Amos Mensah, a vocal member of the New Patriotic Party’s communication team in the Ashanti region, has urged the custom service division of the Ghana Revenue Authority to refrain from imposing unnecessary fees and intimidating local businessmen and women in the region.
The exhaust pipe specialist stated that businesspeople in Kumasi have been subjected to extreme harassment, leading to the collapse of many businesses.
The custom service division was accused of making unlawful charges on goods and services from Accra to Kumasi.
The party stalwart says he suspects some NDC executives are behind the illegal acts and have infiltrated the custom division to influence them to intimidate the traders to make the NPP look unpopular.
“Let’s face the fact, a lot of businesses are collapsing because of alleged harassment of the Customs service division. They are always on the neck of traders for huge sums of money which is hindering the progress of businesses in the region,” he noted.
“I’m calling on the GRA authorities to stop their boys from unlawfully chasing business men in demand for huge charges. I strongly believe they aren’t aware, however I want to draw the attention of the authorities”.
